In September 2008 I was diagnosed with an aggressive form of breast cancer. For months I endured surgery, radiation and chemotherapy but I had no idea these treatments would ravage my skin, lips, and nails. Three weeks into chemotherapy I had dry, itchy and irritated skin. I knew I didn’t want products with questionable ingredients and as for fragrance, well...I wasn’t tolerating “smells” very well. I searched for additive-free, natural products specifically designed with the cancer patient in mind but was surprised when I couldn’t find products without harsh synthetic chemicals, artificial ingredients and additives, or fragrances.
Not one to be easily discouraged, I set out to develop an alternative. I studied cosmetic formulation guides, consulted with skin care experts, and began blending my own soothing lotions and balms. By working with a team of natural skin care formulators, I created a unique line of products that combine organic Aloe Vera, and plant oils and butters with the therapeutic healing powers of herbal extracts.
Along the way, a funny thing happened. My family, friends, other cancer patients, doctors and nurses began noticing my skin — in a good way. I was happy to share my skin care secret with anyone who asked and before I knew it Botanicals for Hope was conceived.
Botanicals for Hope was born from my desire to make a difference and positively impact those who have been affected by cancer. My clients range from those who have always had dry or sensitive skin, to those with skin issues that began as the result of cancer or its' treatments and medications.
